1971 Porsche 911e Sports Car

When you are looking into purchasing a 1971 Porsche 911, keep a couple of things in mind. Porsche actually offered three different models for the 911 in the 1971 model year. A Porsche 911s, which carried a 2.2 liter badged engine was a higher end 911 for the model year with higher horsepower than the other 1971 911's. The Porsche 911e was the middle of the road 911, but for some reason the '71 911e had a little bit less horsepower than the 911s. This was more than likely due to transmission and clutch differences, but if the owner accepted the lower horsepower, they were pleasantly surprised in the 911e's quicker acceleration.

Some collectors today would say that the 1971 Porsche 911t was the top of the line car produced because it was so different from the other two models. The 911t had Zenith carburetors instead of fuel injection, which the other two 911's did have. Our research has also given us the impression that the 971 911t also had a completely different transmission than the other two models. However, the only 911t's we have found for sale have been five-speed transmissions just like the other two models.

A couple of things to keep in mind when searching for your 1971 Porsche 911. If you can find one in the original Albert Blue, you will want to pay a little more attention to it, since this color is highly sought at the moment. As you know this car is almost 40 years old, so there is almost guaranteed to be rust on the car. If you want a rust-free car, you will pay top dollar, and you will have to be it at a certified car auction.

Any 1971 Porsche 911 you find for sale will be in either the soft top targa or hardtop. If it's been restored at all, you may find that the gauges and dash have been interchanged, meaning a 911t might have a 911s or 911e speedometer. It's perfectly acceptable that they would be switched, but it's something to look out for!
