Searching for a desktop computer monitor that comes just about as close to an HDTV as possible? Take a look at the AOC 2436Vh 24" LCD monitor, like I did, and you may in fact find more monitor than you bargained for! Not only does the AOC 2436Vh serve as a huge 24" desktop monitor, but the built-in HDMI port and USB ports allow for the monitor to also be used almost like an HDTV. The built-in speakers also provide a capable sound system for use at the desktop and "near to the monitor" locations.

I'm almost sure the issue most people will have with the AOC 2436Vh monitor is that the brand is not well-known, maybe not even known at all. However, you can rest assured because AOC is one of the many brands associated with its parent company of TPV and in fact is just part of a broad line of computer monitors which includes those sold by Philips. However, because the AOC 2436Vh is less than known, we get a shot at a 1080p 24" computer monitor for $75 to $100 cheaper than those well-known monitors from Samsung and LG, and practically produced in the same factory.

The AOC 2436Vh computer monitor performs best at 1920x1080, which works absolutely wonderful in providing an HD quality picture when playing a movie or viewing photos. For browsing, the screen is just a bit too big for just one normal sized browser window, so we recommend splitting the screen in the middle with an imaginary line. Two browser windows side-by-side on the AOC 2436Vh monitor look great. Of course, you can carry over this detail to anything you want: Outlook, Office documents, movies, chat windows, and more, so that you always have what you want to see in focus on the screen.
Colors are represented well by the 2436Vh monitor with nice bright colors in the red spectrum, and deep dark colors when the picture should be in the black spectrum. Even though AOC says that the picture can be viewed at 160 degree angles, I did not find that to be the case in my trial of the monitor. I can go around 160 degrees from side to side and still view the picture just fine, although the picture does wash a little, as usual, in the extremes. Moving top to bottom allowed for about half that distance, as the monitor just became unviewable when standing above the monitor or sitting below it. If using the AOC 2436Vh, I strongly recommend positioning it very close to eye level if at all possible for the best picture.

It's very rare to purchase a product that is HDMI capable and also includes an HDMI cable, but the AOC 2436Vh does in fact come with it's own debranded HDMI cable. Amazon has HDMI cables for around $9, so that' at least another savings of around $10. If you count your local Walmart or Best Buy's stock of HDMI cables, then you are looking at $30-$50 worth of savings just with this one cable. The AOC 2436Vh monitor also includes cables for VGA, USB, and a sound input cable that fits into your computer's headphone jack so the sounds can be heard from the monitor instead.
Controls for the 2436Vh monitor are centered directly on the right front of the monitor. You may need the user guide at first to learn how to adjust the screen's colors, settings, and input switching because the icons on the setup are just very different than what I am normally used to (rainbows, snowflakes and fire symbols are used oddly). But once you have the monitor adjusted the way you want it, it's probably going to be rare that it's switched again.
The AOC 2436Vh computer monitor surprised me a great deal in just how well it performed. The fact that a 24" LCD monitor was available for under $200 was what really drew me in at first. But I figured the let down would be in the display quality. I have been pleasantly surprised that such a low cost monitor really could provide 1080p HD quality video playback. If you are also ooking around for a large LCD display, but want to save as much money as possible, check into the AOC 2436Vh computer monitor. We think you'll be happy that you did!
