Nintendo continues their ability to make people purchase new hardware for new (and much needed) enhancements with the release of the Nintendo DSi XL! 
If you don't have a Nintendo DSi yet, want to upgrade the DS you do have, and aren't particularly interested in the 3DS, then the Nintendo DSi XL would be the better way to go as opposed to just the DSi. Since the DSi XL is a little more than a year old, almost all stores are selling the Nintendo DSi XL for around $160-$170 (see below for current price or check this link out for the new Midnight Blue version).  But you can find a great lower price on a used DSi XL if you look, and that's just what we're providing below!

After trying this one ourselves, we think the DSi XL is a great upgrade or a first purchase if you did not buy the original DSi.  The Nintendo DSi XL has two 4.2" screens which are much larger than the Nintendo DSi's 3.25" screens, and way larger than the original Nintedo DS 3" screens.

The console is a little bit heavier, 100 grams heavier, but that shouldn't be enough to make it too noticeable. The Nintendo DSi XL is 16 1/2 mm longer and 24 mm wider to accomodate the larger screens which might not be as good for small hands, but young adult and up shouldn't have a problem with the larger console size.

If you haven't purchased a DSi yet, then the Nintendo DSi XL just might be for you, especially if you would like to have the larger screens.  However, please note that the display is not a higher definition than the original DSi.  So, games won't be clearer, cleaner, or sharper on the DSi XL; just bigger!

While the Midnight Blue and DSi XL Red versions have been extremely, check into the Nintendo DSi XL Orange, as well! It's bright, colorful, and usually bundled with Mario Party DS. The price for the DSi XL orange bundle has been cheaper than the DSi XL Red with Mario Kart.
