If you ride mountain bikes, you are probably well aware of Crank Brothers innovative Egg Beater pedals (see Amazon): the quick in and quick out pedal along with the minimalist design has been a favorite of single track riders for years. But there are those of us (like me) who feel like the design is just a little bit too minimalist and won't ride as comfortably as a pedal which has a little more material. To get us interested in their pedals, Crank Brothers designed the Crank Brothers Candy Pedals. The Candy pedals feature all of the best parts of the Egg Beaters: the stainless steel spring is still there, which holds your foot in place just as well as the Egg Beater pedals did, and the overall material is still as sturdy with options in stainless steel, chromoly, and/or aluminum. However, with the Crank Brothers Candy pedals, you do have the options of different materials for the wings (or platforms): titanium or plastic composites are available on the Candy, allowing for new designs or colors for the pedals.

But the addition of the sides to the Crank Brothers Candy pedals is what makes it a great pedal for the rest of us. If you sometime like to ride the hardest trails unclipped, then you can do so with the Crank Brothers Candy pedals because the wings are large enough to rest the unclipped foot. The wings on the Candy pedals also help those of us who might suffer a little foot pain and need the larger platform, which lets the force you push upon the pedal radiate out a little more from the clip.

And finally while the Crank Brothers Egg Beater pedals were known for have a stronger clip than other pedals, which do keep your foot in place (almost no matter what), the Crank Brothers Candy pedals allow a little more leniency in getting your foot unclipped. When riding the toughest single track, it's nice to know that you won't have to fight the pedal should the trail become too rough.

At the end of the day, if the Egg Beater pedals work for you, without issue, we suggest you stay with them. But if you want a little more pedal for your money, or you just like to have a pedal platform while riding the trails, then the Crank Brothers Candy pedals might just be your best bet!
