No, wait, that's not important here. What is important is that the cost of owning a high end espresso machine like the Breville BES860XL is fairly steep, but considering the cost of all those lattes one purchases, it only takes about ten trips to the local coffee house before you can make up the difference by owning your own machine.

But more importantly is really just how game you are at learning how to create espresso yourself. There's a lot of work involved in learning how to create espresso with a smooth crema finish, but if you learn how correctly and can perfect the craft, the outcome is worth it in the end.

A machine like the Breville Barista BES860XL cannot do it all by itself, and takes a lot of involvement from you! And it begins with selecting the right beans. Not just any bean though, but the bean that you will enjoy. Once you've selected that, then we have to grind the beans and this Breville helps out tremendously by including a special conical burr grinder for the task.

Next is selecting the grind consistency and again this is almost a subjective practice into what you or your household prefers. But getting the right grind size to go with the right pressure is paramount to getting a smooth crema finish.

The tamper included with the Breville Barista BES860XL is available for removal so that you can manually tamp or place it in the seal on the machine to let the machine do the tamping. There have been issues with past models of the BES860XL that left a wet puck after brewing, but the latest and new machines no longer have this issue, leaving cleanup much easier.

Since I'm on the tamping, the Breville Barista machine provides easy controls on the front to set a specific setting of pressure to create a specific machine tested espresso output. Those settings can be tweaked for single or double shot espresso or tweaked even more to provide a more custom drink.

Once you have completed the shot dispensation or in the process of doing so, the steaming wand properly provides the frothy milk for your drink. The steaming wand is properly the most forgotten part of design on an espresso unit, but in my opinion is the most important since I never just drink straight shots of espresso.

If providing shots for guests, the warming tray comes in handy while you finish off the remaining drinks and allows for everyone to sample at the same time.

All kidding aside about being a newb, the double wall filter provides a great way to get started without becoming overly frustrated with the process.
