There's a lot to like in a Canon G-Series camera, and if you own one already, you might not see the benefit in purchasing another. But the Canon G12 camera does give the photographer a few new options over the Canon G11 digital camera that might make you trade that old camera in for the new one. The G12 camera, as a compact camera, is a premium camera, but it's still basic enough for new photographers to enjoy owning.
The first item you notice about the Canon G12 digital camera is that it continues the trend of the other Canon G-series cameras by including a variable angled LCD display. The 2.8" LCD, which is a little larger than the regular 2.7" displays of comparable cameras, flips out from the body of the Canon G12 to a maximum of 177 degrees, making it just abour parallel with the back of the camera. However, anywhere in between closed and open, the screen also rotates 270 degrees around the axis to allow for just about any angle you might want to use in capturing your shots! The Canon G12 camera and it's LCD display is designed for how you want to take a picture without compromising your ability to see around any corner or from any height!

The LCD display is great, but it's not really what sets the Canon G12 digital camera apart from other G-series cameras. What does, however, is it's ability to record video in 720p format. Most digital cameras are turning to digital video as well as still photography to give owners a better deal for their money, and the Canon G12 is no exception. With the G12, you'll find that you don't need a camcorder to record HD video, as this Canon makes it very simple to record absolutely stunning video, no matter the available light or setting.

Speaking of low light conditions, the Canon G12 includes the HS system, which is basically the 10.0 megapixel CCD sensor coupled with the DIGIC 4 image processor. Basic setup, yes, but a highly advanced setup that sets the stage for all of the other features to work better. The DIGIC 4 processor is a higher performing processor than most, and allows the photographer to capture low light photos and video without the flash in most cases. If the light is incredibly low, the HS system allows for a higher ISO to capture photos and video without harming the quality of the photos or blurring the subjects.
You'll find that with the Canon G12 camera, you can zoom into your subjects with the 5x optical zoom, yet still capture very crisp shots. The G12 incorporates the Canon Hybrid IS system which takes points of reference from two different sources, and blends them together to create a higher quality finished shot. Both camera shake and angular shift issues will benefit from the Hybrid IS system whether you are capture photos or recording HD video. An image stabilization system is also in place to correct the images further due to hand shaking.
Wrapped around the wide-angle 28 millimeter lens is a dial for more experience photographers to use in manually focusing on subjects as the photos or video is taken. The Canon G12 does of course feature auto focus, but sometime it's better to rely on your own eye, than the computer within the camera, and so the G12 camera gives you the option of using the dial.
With the option of 720p HD video, the advanced HS system, and the Hybrid IS system, new photographers will enjoy the ease of which you can use the highly advanced Canon G12 digital camera without a lot of effort being expended. Experienced and professional photographers will enjoy the added features as well, but will also note that the Canon G12 still allows you to capture the perfect shots based on your experience rather than using the camera's best guess.
