Being from Missisissippi, home of the Blues, we know a thing or two about making do with what you have, and so it goes with the Cigar Box Guitar. If you couldn't afford a "real guitar" in the late 19th and early 20th century, a Cigar Box Guitar might have been your next best choice. Cigar boxes could be found in most places, so all that was lacking was a desire to play the guitar and the inclination to build one yourself!

While we can't say that the Cigar Box Guitar originated here in Mississippi, I do know that the poorest of the poor lived here, and it's hard to say that the early Delta Blues Men did not have something to do with the popularity of the Cigar Box Guitar as we see it today.
