Pontiac Fiero Review

The Pontiac Fiero is a sports car derived from a Pontiac division of General Motors. The model was in existence from 1984 to 1988. Even though they are no longer making new models, the model is still a classic amongst car collectors. The Fiero comes from the Italian root word, "proud" and means "wild" in Spanish. The model was designed by Hulki Aldikacti. The Fiero was created as the first two-sector Pontiac since 1926 to 1938 first coupe. This model was also the first widely produced sports car with a mid-engine created by the United States. The Fiero was way ahead of their time as far as technology and radical design.

There were other names associated with the Pontiac Fiero, such as Fiamma, Sunfire, Pegasus, P3000 and Firebird XP. Before the Fiero, the classic corvette was General Motors number one focus, and they were unsure about bringing out another two-seater sports car. What made General Motors change their mind was the oil crisis in 1979, where there was a potential market for a fuel-efficient vehicle.

It was then created with a 2.5 L 4-cylinder engine. This engine was capable of 27 mpg on the highway. It also had an economy-ration transmission option. The Fiero would be a cheaper alternative to the original Corvette and was also able to meet the demands of a fuel-efficient car. The mid-engine was created in order to reduce the vehicles weight and aerodynamic drag. This was to improve efficiency and for braking benefits. Some of the model's parts were used from other GM economy cars such as the Chevrolet Chevette and Chevrolet Citation. In other words, the Fiero was able to compete against other higher end sports cars.

The public was anxious about the introduction to the Fiero. However, the Fiero soon started to receive bad reviews from critics and the public. Most of the critics were expecting a higher performance out of the vehicle. Despite these bad reviews, the Fiero went on to sell very well. The Fiero is still a highly sought after car by old-fashioned vehicle collectors and is often displayed amongst other classic vehicles in car parades.
