Woodies for Sale

1951-mercury-woodie

Woodies are great cars to own if you like to stand out from the crowd.  Due to their having the unique body styling of wood to accompany a sloping steel body. Below you'll find a little more history around the Woodie plus a chance to see restored Woodies and Woodie project cars!

Woodies were first made popular around the Second World War due to the rationing of metal put in place by the government.  Car manufacturers found that they could still make great cars, but save the metal by incorporating wood into the body.

As manufacturers made more and more of the Woodies, their popularity grew then sank.  The price on a Woodie bottomed and the cars were put out to pasture, where surfers discovered that the cars were the cheapest mode of transportation for them and their surfboards.

I have a 1961 pontiac tin woody wagon for restoration or parts, it is about 95 percent complete, has the straight 8 with an automatic hydromatic transmission, motor is 100 percent complete even have metal fan shrowd, good radiator, new gas tank, perfect rear tailgate with lights, all chrome trim or most, have really nice wood trim with ten pieces in all, have all door panels, bumpers are good but need rechroming, have two sun visors for outside of car, all parts are useable but their is some rust especially inside when you open the doors, and the floor panels are pretty rusty but still their, have Illinois title for car clear. hood is in good shape with chrome, has radio, steering wheel, front grille, don’t have any seats but their are plastic wood trim pieces are all their, alot of rare pieces here, feel free to email me at jshain@sbcglobal.net, also have hood ornament in pretty good shape needs rechromed but orange head in good shape also have all nameplates in good shape like pontiac straight eight and more, motor is locked up, was redone twenty years ago, we are trying to get it to turn over a little bit at a time.
