Dodge Woodies and Dodge Woodie Wagons
I sat down to write a post about the availability of the Dodge Woodie Wagon for all enthusiasts, like yourself, but I found out pretty quickly that there are very few Dodge Woodies available for sale in the current market. In fact, about the only thing one can find regarding Dodge Woodies are parts for those particular cars, or advertisements for the Dodge Woodie from the Woodie era (anywhere between 1937 and very early into 1950). In fact, this is due partly to very few Dodge Woodies being built (only 500 or so in 1937), so if we're going to locate this particular woodie, and still find it in great shape, it's going to take the better part of a miracle!
As you know, if you are a Dodge Woodie enthusiast, the most popular of all the Dodge Woodies were the Dodge Power Wagon from the 1947 and 1950 model years. The Dodge Power Wagon Woodie, while manufactured by Dodge, had a body produced by either the J.T. Cantrell company or the Campbell Company. The original bodies produced by these companies for the Dodge Power Wagon Woodie were designed with durability in mind, by using a seasoned ash for the framework on the Woodie, and using a waterproof plywood of mahogany for the body panels.
Today, you will find many of the Dodge Woodies that you see at your local car shows have been restored as hot rods: lowered bodies, with smaller wheels and wheel wells, etc. But the worst part is that you may find that Dodge Woodie to be carrying a Chevy engine. Hot Rod enthusiasts really like dropping a Chevy in the engine compartment, and the Dodge Woodie seems to carry on that legacy.
