You used to need a giant television sized monitor to sit on top of your computer. It took up a ton of space, used up a lot of power, and was incredibly heavy! Not so much anymore, and we have so many better styles and types of monitors to pick from now that it's hard to remember computer days from just 15 years ago. Instead of the aforementioned giant CRT, you can get a flat-panel LCD monitor in sizes ranging from 14.5" to 22", to 24", and more. Those same LCD monitors can come in standard sizes, or wide-screen, and even swivel mounts for monitors. Not as prevalent yet are monitors equipped with HDMI, for high-def videos and gaming on your monitor. Of course, the resolution on newere televisions have the ability to be used as both HDTV's and computer monitors, though most people still do not use their televisions in this dual role.
