If you are a fan of David Bach and his Finish Rich or Automatic Millionaire series of books, it's possible you've got a bit of an interest in his latest book, Debt Free for Life: The Finish Rich Plan for Financial Freedom. But for my review, I'm only going to recommend this latest book for those who haven't yet read Mr. Bach's books, and the reason being is that the information is actually pretty well covered in several of his other books! Now, I won't be able to stop true fans of David Bach, and I don't want to. But I'm here to try and help our readers to find true bargains, and the real bargain would be to just reread another of Mr. Bach's books if you already own one. If Debt Free for Life will be your first David Bach book, and you are interested in reducing debt, then absolutely read on.

In Debt Free for Life, the latest iteration of the Finish Rich series, David takes on the issue of debt, and just how much of it we carry as Americans. Using his well publicized debt free plan, labeled DOLP© (Dead On Last Payment), Mr. Bach shows you how to prioritize your debts using simple division between the balance being carried and the minimum payment due. This normally works out to be smallest debt to largest, although if two debts have a similar balance but differing minimum payment amounts, a larger debt could be prioritized above a smaller one.

Once this listing is complete, you set your auto payments to automatically pay the minimums on the low priority debts, while paying as much as you can over the minimum on the highest priority debt. Once that one is paid off, the amount being paid is transferred to the next debt. Does this sound familiar? Well, if you've tried to pay off debt before, then you will recognize this as the snowball method, although a bit stylized.

So does the plan outlined in Debt Free for Life actually work? You bet it does, although it does take some dedication. This same snowball plan, except for the calculations and automatic payments, has been promoted by Dave Ramsey and his Financial Peace or Total Money Makeover plan for many years. Both plans bring a custom idea to the table, but the end result is the same. At this point, I could recommend Dave Ramsey's plan over this one, but if we are just talking straight debt payoff, then the DOLP© method works out just fine!

Of course, what I've told you above doesn't make for a very long book, or even a pamphlet, so you can be sure that David Bach fills his Debt Free for Life book with stories from real people who have used the DOLP© system (I did mention that it has been in place for a number of books). There are also chapters on using Debt Wise to get out of debt, techniques to lower the interest rate being charges on credit cards, and other useful tips regarding additional income and mortgage payments.

The Debt Free for Life book itself I found to be extremely easy to read, and easy to understand. Aside from the math used to determine each debt's score, Mr. Bach makes it simple to determine which debt needs to be paid first, and how to go about accomplishing the task. If you like Mr. Bach's style, but want a more comprehensive plan for not only getting out of debt, but gaining in net worth, then Start Over, Finish Rich might be a better choice, as Debt Free for Life almost solely focuses on the elimination of debt.

As with almost all books, Amazon allows for a preview of Debt Free for Life, so you can determine if you like it before you purchase it. The first chapter is available for free on the book, so why not give it a shot? It doesn't technically go into any debt free work, but does give a good basis on why you should go debt free in your own life!
