But there has been one serious issue with almost every model of DeLonghi Espresso maker available to date: price. Because DeLonghi is the best and they know they are the best, the cost to own your own maker have been extremely high.
However, the DeLonghi EC155 Espresso and Cappuccino maker has been available for several years and is actually affordable! The DeLonghi EC155 features self-priming, so you don't have to spend a lot of time preparing to make your espresso. It has a jet frother that swivels to allow you to make your drink the way you want.

And two separate temperature gauges for the steam and and water, which makes creating the drink you like, the one you want, easy without needing to sacrifice anything in preparation. So why is the DeLonghi EC155 so cheap?
Well, just a few things that make having an espresso maker a benefit instead of just hopping in the car and getting the Starbucks barista to make it for you. You may find that not having a cup warmer is a disappointment, or that the frother is designed just a bit too low on the DeLonghi EC155.

So there are a couple of inconveniences to this little, compact espresso machine designed in Italy. But what I want is a good cup of espresso, made the way I want, and it's going to be difficult to get it in anything cheaper than this little package.
There are other options in espresso makers that run about the same price as the DeLonghi EC155, and if they include warmers or are less compact than this one, you might be tempted by those. But don't before you understand that most espresso machines under $100 are going to use steam to create the "correct" pressure for making espresso. Steam can make espresso, but not great espresso. For great, you'll need a pump driven machine like every quality DeLonghi, including the EC155. The pump can create 500% more pressure than steam, and if you know espresso, you know the more pressure put upon the coffee in the filter, the more flavor that will be extracted.
The Delonghi EC155 was designed for use by just a few people at a time, making a bit more than 8 4-ounce cups of espresso at a time. That should be enough for most small parties, but it's so easy to make more, there's no reason why one can't just start it up the process again. Because of the compact size, the EC155 espresso machine does take E.S.E. coffee pods,which make for easy cleanup. But you can feel free to use loose coffee ground especially for espresso.

The only item I would change quickly with this machine is the filter basket. It's just a bit flimsy and doesn't make one feel like it will last very long. It may last quite a long time, and I could be wrong, but I like to switch to metal filters fairly quickly when buying new coffee machines.
Before you buy a cheap espresso or cappuccino machine from your local big box store, take a look at the DeLonghi EC155 espresso/cappuccino maker. It may not feature every amenity available on those other machines, and it may be just a bit smaller and compact. But the features it does bring to the table are designed to create the best shot of espresso you can get for the money you pay for this machine and frankly a good bit more. It helps that the shiny metal exterior that wraps the DeLonghi EC155 makes for a stylish complement to the kitchen.

Bargain Price Watch: Since our initial review of the DeLonghi EC155, the price of this sweet little espress/cappuccino maker has dropped considerably. Our initial pricing had it just above the $100 mark, but the EC155 can now be purchased for just above $70!
