Did You Purchase an Apple iPad?

It looks like Apple has struck gold again, and is on pace to completely sell out of the new Apple iPad!  At least judging by the prices for the Apple iPad on eBay, it appears that it's going to sell out since the prices there are higher than if you purchased at Best Buy or the Apple store itself.  If you did purchase the iPad, or plan on doing so, what were your reasons?

Personally, if I felt like purchasing the Apple iPad, there are only a few reasons why I would purchase the Apple iPad:

eBook Reader - I love the Amazon Kindle software that I use on my iPhone!  In fact, I haven't purchased a book since getting the iPhone that wasn't an electronic book.  But the one problem I have with it is that I have to continuously "turn the page".  On a nice sized book, like Neil Gaiman's Neverwhere, that's about 4,200 page turns, and there's just something disconcerting about flipping my thumb 4,200 times!

Easier Web Browsing - I am continually "pinching" the screen to zoom in and out so that I can read my favorite websites comfortably on my iPhone.  The promise of the iPad is that I wouldn't have to do that, since the screen would be relatively full size.  Of course, you can still pinch to make the text larger or smaller on the iPad, but maybe not nearly as much as with the tiny iPhone screen.

Marvel Comics App - this one would really depend on Marvel comics being available to the app as they were on the news stand.  At the current time, they are not, and Marvel is letting the users of the app purchase older versions of their comics.  The Marvel Comics app is available for the iPhone and Touch, but the screen is really too small to be valuable.

While I'm at it, I might as well list some reasons why I won't purchase the Apple iPad, and I really am not going to, so these reasons trump the reasons above:

Cost of the iPad - seriously, $499 - $699 for a larger iPhone that doesn't make phone calls, but basically does everything the iPhone does?  Just because it's larger, doesn't mean it's better.  If I'm going to pay $499, then I might as well get a nice little Asus netbook.  I can keep reading my books on the iPhone, and just use a (cheaper) netbook for everything else.

I hate the touch screen keyboard - the only thing I don't like about the iPhone is the tiny and very sensitive touch screen keyboard.  Maybe the iPad's keyboard is larger, but it's more than likely just as sensitive, and so I'll look like I don't know how to spell anything on it either.  I've also heard that the keyboard layout is actually too large, and makes the middle keys less accessible to the user, so that they have to stretch to reach them.  The fact that you can purchase an attachable keyboard for the iPad doesn't help my opinion either.  That means that Apple knows the touch screen keyboard is bad, or at least they heard enough complaints that they decided to design in this feature.

No Adobe Flash Support - this one still irritates me on the iPhone.  There are a lot of sites which display video, charts, or other data using Adobe Flash, and the Apple iPad, iPhone, and Touch do not support Flash.  I wouldn't want to blow $699 for a computer that won't let me view legitimate site content.

So, there you have it from my perspective.  If you've purchased an iPad, let me know what you think below.  If you haven't but are trying to decide, let's see your thought process!
