The Dyson air multiplier (otherwise modeled as the AM01) is equal parts fascinating and disappointing. Fascinating because there is absolutely nothing else like it in the "home fan" market. Yes, there are bladeless fans, but not any oscillating fans with as much force of air as the Dyson AM01. And absolutely one can find roundish type fans for the home, but none have the constant flow of air that comes with the AM01. I'm not talking about bursts of air, either, but constant full force air, oscillating or not, wherever you might want to push it.

But the Dyson AM01 air multiplier and it's counterparts are disappointing due to the price. I just can't see myself ever purchasing what amounts to a box fan for around $300. Yes, the product (air circulation) is far superior than anything you'll get out of a standard home fan. Much more powerful in fact. But for $300, I could probably purchase a whole bunch of box fans and have a freaking tornado go off in the house! So, no, the Dyson AM01 isn't a very good bargain, and for that reason, we can't recommend it be purchased here (because you know that's what we are about). But we can recommend it strictly on performance and even the coolness factor, so that's where our review will course through.

No, wait, I don't know that I can review this Dyson air multiplier or any of the many bladeless fans that Dyson is marketing right now. It just seems like a tremendous waste of money to spend $300 on a table fan. So, I cannot in good faith recommend a $300 fan to anyone outside of those who have plenty of money and $300 just wouldn't make a serious dent in the budget.

Now paying this much for a fan isn't out of the ordinary for some households, although the price is usually for another type of fan. Yes, I'm talking about ceiling fans, which can run from very cheap to very highly priced.

But even though most of the Dyson air multipliers are very stylish in their satin blue and white finishes, it's not really a home decor item, nor is the fan an item that would stay with the home and add value should you choose to sell it at some point. That's where ceiling fans have the Dyson beat, and makes a bit more sense to actually spend the money on high quality fans.

The Dyson AM01, like most of the other air multipliers, swivels at the base for moving the air towards the ceiling or the floor if desired. It's a bit different when doing this, as the fan does not require a lock for the swivel, but instead shifts it's center of gravity to accommodate the new position.

The bladeless fan also oscillates back and forth at differing speeds to provide needed comfort all around the room it resides instead of in just one location. So the features are here for this fan.

I really love this fan, honest I do. I so wish it was much cheaper, and then I could have written a review about the awesomeness that is the Dyson air multiplier. But in the end, we're still talking about a $300 house fan, and in most cases, just a normal fan will do just fine. However if you would prefer something a bit more stylish in the tabletop fan area, you probably won't find anything more stylish than any fan in the Dyson air multiplier division!
