Barnes & Noble reduced the price of the economy Nook ebook reader to only $149 today, and of course Amazon was quick to follow suit. We feel like the Kindle is the better bet for your money, having tried actually owned a Nook for about a week. According to the B&N reps, we are one of the very few people to have purchased a bad Nook, but it left a bad taste in our mouths. So, with that said, we strongly recommend the Amazon Kindle at it's new price of $189 over the Nook at $139! The only thing I would feel bad about with the Kindle or the Nook is if I purchased one over the weekend, only to find out that $50-$70 could have been saved in just a few days.

Now, the Nook does have a color screen, so if you are interested in having a bit of color with your books, then maybe the Nook is for you. However, the $149 price range Nook only comes with wireless built-in. If you want 3G plus wireless, then you will have to pay $199, and that's $10 more upfront for something the Kindle already has. Not to be outplayed, Amazon also still has the larger Kindle DX, and the price on it doesn't appear to have changed. It's still well above $400 brand new.

Barnes and Noble Nook for Sale

Regardless of what you decide, now is probably the time to purchase an ebook reader if it was in your plans. No one knows how long this price war will go on, but it probably won't be long for at least one of the retailers (I'm guessing Amazon quits first).
