If it were up to me, I would not buy the Fujifilm FinePix S2950 camera we're reviewing today, and the reason is because it's a camera that's made to look like something it's not. It's styled like a DSLR camera, so those who love the look of a higher-end camera, but can't afford the price, can satisfy themselves with this eye candy and it's super cheap and yes, bargain price. But all the buttons and gizmos added by Fujifilm do not satisfy the requirement of DSLR with the FinePix S2950 camera: it's just designed to appear as such.

Now, if your goal is to purchase a high-end point-and-shoot camera and quite frankly are tired of the tiny offering available elsewhere, then absolutely the Fujifilm S2950 camera can be a fantastic choice. As a point-and-shoot, the abilities of this camera tower over the little ELPH cameras or even the slightly larger Nikon Coolpix cameras that so many have chosen over Fujifilm offerings.

And maybe the smaller size is why people tend to choose those against the larger cameras, like the Fujifilm S2950. People want to carry the cameras in their pockets for easy retrieval, much like the camera phones we carry now. So again, if that's your goal, this camera is just too bulky.

But the bulkier housing (and the abilities; more on those in a bit) is exactly why I would prefer the Fujifilm S2950 over anything else in the point-and-shoot category. Those tiny cameras are just too small for me to feel comfortable using. And it wouldn't matter if it had a 16-point stabilization system built-in, I still wouldn't be able to get a good shot.

But with the Fujifilm FinePix S2950 camera, I can! Starting with the DSLR-type handgrip on the side, it's easy to stabilize the camera, even when trying to take a quick shot, because i can get that good grip on the camera. The dual image stabilization system isn't as great as some cameras, but Fujifilm is able to reduce that due to the excellent design of the camera. I can't stress enough how excellent having this handgrip truly is when almost every offering below DSLR is so tiny and compact.

The size of the camera is really only the start of the greatness of it as a point-and-shoot. Nikon's Nikkor lenses are well known for being excellent, but Fuji went a step further here and added 18x optical zoom to the camera, allowing you to take wide angle shots from very far and still have the ability to capture clear and sharp shots.

The Fujifilm S2950 camera's megapixel rating is super high for a point-and-shoot also, coming in at 14 megapixels, but you can get higher than that for about a hundred bucks more on other point-and-shoot (and smaller) cameras. But what really gives the S2950 an edge is the higher ISO rating. Capable of 6400 ISO, low light shots are not only possible, but highly easy to capture.

The camera also captures 720p HD movie clips, and can be played back on the camera via the 3-inch LCD screen. Nothing to write home about here, as it's typical and standard for a point-and-shoot, so the only true story is if the camera did not have these abilities.

If you are searching for a DSLR, don't be fooled by the Fujifilm FinePix S2950 camera's looks, but if your goal is to upgrade to an easier to grasp,easier to hold camera with the same or better abilities than other point-and-shoot cameras, then we feel the Fujifilm S2950 camera might just be the right model for you!
