The review of the GoPro HD Hero 960 camera below is another guest post written while the admin of the site is on sabbatical. Unfortunately, the guest reviewer didn't exactly get what makes the GoPro Hero 960 so special, nor how it's actually used. The information below is technically correct, but those of you actually looking at purchasing the camera will note that the reviewer saw the camera as one to be held in the hands, and not mounted on the head, chest, or arm of the person engaging in the activity. Whether you are a professional sports photographer or just enjoy snapping photos of your child's soccer games, you probably have noticed that a regular camera just doesn't cut it. Nobody wants to look at blurry photos that are out of focus. Fortunately, with today's advanced technology, new cameras can be used to take some great sports photos. The camera comes with five megapixels and a full five hours of recording time. There are also a number of handy features, including adhesive mounts from 3M, waterproof quick-release housing, a helmet front mount, a headlamp-style head strap, built-in battery warmer and much more.
Taking a video on the HD Hero 960 camcorder is snap. The camera has three different HD video resolution modes and plenty of recording time. The captured videos are compressed and then saved as MP4 files, which are compatible with both Windows and Mac. The audio quality on the HD Hero 960 is also stellar.
Perhaps the greatest thing about the GoPro Hero 960 is its surprisingly low price. The camera is marketed to compete with professional cameras that sometimes sell for over ten times the price. GoPro claims that this is made possible by assembling a group of Silicon Valley geeks obsessed with sports. No matter how they keep the prices down, consumers everywhere will be grateful for the chance to produce high-quality athletic photography for a fraction of the usual price.

Of course with the low price of the GoPro 960 camera compared to the more expensive HD Hero, there are going to be some items not included in the cheaper model. The most glaring of which is the lack of a connection point for an external LCD monitor. None of the GoPro cameras so far have an LCD monitor included, which serves to keep the camera as small and light as possible while wearing. But the more expensive cameras allow for an LCD to be purchased and connected for playback on the go.
If you plan on accessorizing this camera with external equipment like an LCD monitor, then the Hero 960 isn't the best option. Do understand that none of the GoPro cameras are sold with an LCD, so nothing is actually missing from the 960 package. Just the option to do more is left out.
The GoPro HD Hero 960 camera also has a slightly less maximum resolution than the more expensive GoPro camera. While the other camera is capable of full 1080p at 60 frames per second, the GoPro 960 only maxxes to 960p at 30 frames per second. Not many will be able to notice the difference in 1080p and 960p. It's just too difficult to determine without studying, and if you aren't a professional movie director, it's not a big deal. The frames per second may be an issue, though. Since the camera is meant to create action shots, the option to create slow-motion movies using the GoPro 960 may be utilized more than a normal camcorder.
