Chainsaw Safety Tips
One of the most important things to remember when using a chainsaw is chainsaw safety. A chainsaw is one of the world’s most dangerous power tools. The safest time to use your chainsaw is when it is sharp believe it or not using a dull one is more dangerous. The easiest way to avoid being injured when you are using a chainsaw is to be aware of everything. Being well rested and working in an uninterrupted area is the best time to operate a chainsaw. You should never use one if you are intoxicated or under the influence. Whenever you are sharpening your saw, you should be wearing very thick gloves. An even better thing to do is take it to a professional to do it for you.
Dressing correctly when using a chainsaw can also increase safety. Wearing no t-shirt wouldn’t be the smartest thing to do with debris flying all around. A hard hat should be worn as well as steel-toe capped boots at all times. One of the major things to know about before you use a chainsaw is kickback. Kickback occurs when the chainsaw bar is flung upwards uncontrollably during crosscutting, or cutting across the grain of the tree. This usually results in the striking of the operator in the head at speed causing serious injury or death. It’s caused by the chain on the top quarter of the nose bar by hitting a solid object or being pinched during sawing. The force of the chain then flings the tip of the bar in an arc at the operator quicker than the operator can react to move out of the way.
