Cleaning Your Chainsaw

Cleaning a chainsaw is not that hard of a task. It can however get quite dangerous if you do not know what to do. Every time you use your chainsaw it picks up sap and resin from wood and that will gum up with a mixture of materials such as sawdust, dirt and chain lubricant. To keep your chainsaw’s performance at the max you need to regularly clean your chainsaw. IF you do not keep your saw clean it causes the chain saw to work harder, run hotter, and can even destroy a good chain.

The first step in cleaning your chainsaw is a no brainer. The most important thing to remember when cleaning your chainsaw is to turn the power off. DO not try to clean it while it is still running. The second thing to do is to loosen up the adjustment knob. Keep adjusting it until there is enough slack on the chain to allow you to slip it off of the guide bar. After you use a mixture of one cup of household ammonia and one gallon of water in a plastic bucket, you want to soak the chain in the mixture and scrub each section with a bristled brush. You will then rinse the chain under running water. You then need to dry it immediately with an old but clean towel to make sure all the sections have been dried.

Cleaning your chainsaw is a must to keep your chainsaw at top performance.
