Using a Chainsaw Correctly
The chainsaw is one of the outdoorsman favorite equipment to use. These outdoorsmen however did not just grab a chainsaw and start working. They learned how to properly use a chainsaw and keep each another safe. Reading the manual can significantly improve your skills and it also tells you about all of the safety features for your chainsaw and the correct way of operating it.
One of the most important things to know before you can use a chainsaw correctly is being aware of the chainsaw’s kickback. Kickback usually happens when the chainsaw bar is flung upwards uncontrollably during crosscutting, because the saw got caught on something. Some simple ways to prevent kickback are do not cut above shoulder height and hold the chainsaw firmly.
There are many things to take in consideration when using a chainsaw correctly. Always holding your chainsaw firmly with both hands is one of the major things to do. Also keeping your body clear of what you are cutting is extremely important as you could possibly kill yourself. Other things to do are to make sure your chainsaw does not touch any foreign materials such as stones, metal or wires as they could be flung around or cause your chainsaw to kickback.
Wearing correct clothing and equipment is also needed to use a chainsaw correctly. The things you need to wear while sawing are approved safety helmets with a visor or goggle, safety boots and safety gloves, and earmuffs. Earmuffs might not seem important but they can prevent you from going deaf.
