We can write about waterproof cameras all day long that have fairly high price tags that compensate by trying to be everything else at the same time as they are attempting the waterproof deal. Shockproof, cold-proof, 3D panorama, or whatever else the latest thing might be. But if all you really wanted was a camera you could use during that one great week at the beach, that one great week that you've not had in ten years and may not have again for another decade, then why would you pay a premium price for waterproof?

The Kodak C123 camera allows you to hold the camera at a preferred distance and angle yet still be able to view the shot as its being taken with a very bright 2.4" LCD screen. It's not the biggest screen in the world, of course; that would be one of the fancier cameras 3 or 3.5-inch display. And it's not touchscreen either, but the LCD does the job just fine for what you want to do: line up the subjects and take a photo.

I think I've mentioned in this review just about everything the Kodak C123 digital camera does not have, and there's a reason for doing so. For a camera that sells for much less than $70, the primary functions for the camera will be where the focus on the product will be. At the sub $100 price point, the camera needs to be able to take good photos, have a little bit of zoom, and provide ease of use. The Kodak C123 goes a step further with the waterproof ability, and with that feature, that's practically all of the features one should expect.
We're not quite finished with the C123 yet and its EasyShare capabilities. The camera also features Kodak's scene detection and image processing abilities to provide an automatic means for the camera to set the right amount of ISO and coloring to the photos. Like most cameras, the C123 does detect the scene, should you have scene detection turned on, and will provide the best possible settings that the camera can muster for each particular situation.
There is one missing component to the Kodak C123 camera that you might wish you had, and that's image stabilization. I frankly have some of the world's worst shaky hands when it comes to taking photographs, so my shots are going to have some blur. If image stabilization is more on than it is off on your other cameras, you might find the pictures taken with the C123 lacking a bit due to the blur.
Depending on the water where this camera is submerged, you may have blurring there, too, but it may not be because of the camera alone. Murky water is going to blurry, just because it's darker with less light, and there aren't many cameras less than $500 that can help you out with that type of water. Clear blue water is a different matter, and should provide some excellent scenes for the Kodak C123 camera.

We cannot recommend the Kodak C123 camera as a good camera for all around use unless of course the waterproofing is needed more often than not. It doesn't have to be submerged to be a great waterproof camera, as using it on just rainy days makes the waterproof abilities worth having the camera. At this price, we would recommend one of the other Kodak EasyShare cameras if waterproof isn't necessary. But if it is, if needing a camera in rainy situations comes up just once in a while, or if a pocket camera is needed for possible wet weather conditions, then take a closer look at the Kodak C123 digital camera!
