The Kodak EasyShare Z981 digital camera is first and foremost fairly inexpensive compared to their counterparts. Currently somewhere between $200-$250 (depending on whether you purchase a kit or not), the Kodak Z981 is a real bargain for a 14.1 megapixel camera. The Z981 camera is built around a CCD sensor to capture the best quality photos possible and with the built-in image stabilization system, you'll get crisp photos without the blur associated with hand shake or rapidly moving subjects.

You'll find out quickly just how high the quality is on the Schneider when you use the 26x wide angle zoom lens for ultra close-up shots and see just how detailed they are! I want that to sink in just a little bit: 26x wide angle zoom.... With that amount of zoom, you can really focus down on a macro level to just about anything you want to zoom in on with the Kodak Z981 camera!
You'll also enjoy having a large LCD screen with the EasyShare Z981 camera. The 3" LCD display is a bit bigger than the standard 2.7" LCD screens of other digital point-and-shoot cameras which works out nicely since you will also want to use the Z981 camera to shoot HD video since it's capable of 720p.
And while I did start out almost pushing Kodak around because they were so late to the digital camera field, I will say that one of the things they do best is in the social aspects of photography. Like several other cameras, the Kodak Z981 digital camera includes a "share" button to allow for one touch sharing of your photos directly from your camera to Facebook, Flickr, or the Kodak online gallery. If you want to share your HD videos, then the EasyShare button also will load your videos to those sites (if they allow video) plus Youtube. It's as easy as connecting the Z981 to your internet ready computer via the USB port, and pressing the share button. There is some setup on where to send the photos and video prior to sharing, but once it's setup, the Kodak Z981 really does do "EasyShare" very well.
Finally, I do want to point out the Kodak Z981's ability to automate some tasks that can be manual on other cameras. The Z981 camera is a great camera for the novice because it can determine the conditions around the camera (mainly with light check) and changes the settings to create the best possible photo or video whether you are in low light or very bright light. After the shot, shadows are automatically removed to create brighter photos with less noise, so much so that you won't believe that a camera could create such great photos.
There are a few problems with the Kodak Z981 camera. Because it's a budget camera, the body of the camera is not as durable as other cameras in its class. You'll feel it once you pick it up that it's not as heavy as others due to the lack of plastics. The LCD screen is not viewable from all directions as are some other cameras. You'll probably need to view the LCD almost directly most of the time as the angle of view is limited. You are also limited by the built-in flash as there is not a hot shoe designed into the top of the Z981. But in a budget camera, an external flash unit usually isn't required.
If you are interested in an intuitive camera that's priced right for those of you looking for bargain point-and-shoot cameras, it's not difficult to recommend the Kodak EasyShare Z981 digital camera. With it's 14.1 megapixel resolution, high quality optics, huge amount of zoom, large LCD, and the EasyShare, the Z981 camera includes a lot of features of the price. Kodak knows photography and how to do it well, so it's no surprise that they could come up with a camera that as well designed with as many features as the Z981 has without breaking the budget to do so.
