Electric Purple Kodak Slice 14 Megapixel Digital Camera

When the Kodak Slice first arrived on the market, those purchasing cameras balked at the high price. While the large touch screen and intuitive picture search built into the Kodak Slice camera are really excellent features, the initial price of $300 was just too much. Thankfully, those interested in the the Kodak Slice initially but wanted to wait for a lower price have been rewarded!

Like most new point and shoot cameras, the Kodak Slice camera attempts to reduce the number of physical controls by building upon a touch screen interface. The touch screen is a rather large 3.5" in width and displays your shots in 16:9 format! The Slice screen features the standard anti-glare coating that all touch screen cameras contain.

Something complete different from other point and shoot cameras is the internal memory of the Kodak Slice. While other cameras like the Slice only include 32-40Mb of internal memory, and thus relying on you to purchase memory cards, the Slice includes a whopping 2 Gb (gigabytes) of memory. 2Gb relates to around 5,000 photos, which may be all the memory you need. The Slice camera does include a slot for a micro SD card if you want to make your photos more portable, but for most, 2Gb should be more than sufficient.

The huge internal memory of the Kodak Slice is built into the camera for a reason. The camera includes the ability to search through photos using tags that are added to each photo by the photographer. Tags can be used to organize photos into categories that you choose, so photos from a certain trip can be gathered together for a slideshow. The Kodak Slice can also remember 20 different faces, so once you have placed a tag on the special people in your life, the Slice camera will automatically tag the faces it remembers, making it easier to find those pictures!

The Kodak Slice is capable of creating 14.5 megapixel resolution photos, which creates 30"x40" photos before image quality begins to degrade. 14.5 megapixels is becoming the new standard for point and shoot cameras, so you aren't missing anything here. More importantly though, the ISO thankfully goes up to 3200, and is a better standard for the quality of shot you will get in low lighting or fast moving target situations.

Finally, it wouldn't be a good point and shoot camera without the ability to shoot HD videos, and the Kodak Slice doesn't let us down! The standard ability to record in 720p resolution at 30 frames per second is here, as it should be. What makes the Kodak Slice better than the rest is the ability to zoom while shooting video. Other point and shoots require the zoom to be set prior to recording, but you can use the 5x optical zoom as much as you want while shooting with the Kodak Slice camera! The motor that runs the zoom is very quiet, and shouldn't disturb the video while shooting, and shouldn't be heard except in the quietest of video.

When the Kodak Slice digital camera first came out at the beginning of 2010, we took a look at it, but the high price of the camera kept us from being able to recommend it. We're glad that the price has come down considerably in the last year because the Kodak Slice really is a great little camera! It's easy to use, includes plenty of memory, and does just about everything we think a point and shoot camera should be able to do well. Take a close look at the Kodak Slice yourself and see if this camera could be a good option for you!
