The prices on network capable Blu-ray players keeps falling, and we can certainly associate that fact with the newest from LG, the LG BD630 Blu-ray player. What is making most of these Blu-ray players so cheap is that while they provide almost all of the benefits that you expect from a Blu-ray player: 1080p playback, DVD upscaling, connectivity for other devices, and internet access to premium content.
But what is missing in these mid-range network Blu-ray players could cause you to want to pay a little more for the added features: items like Wi-Fi connectivty or 3D video playback. If those features aren't necessary for you, then read on through our review and see why the LG BD630 Blu-ray player might be priced just right for your needs!

Even though it's budget-priced, the LG BD630 is capable of displaying your video in 1080p, and will display as sharp and as clear as a more expensive Blu-ray player, provided that your HDTV can handle the 1080p video as provided (24Hz or 60Hz are your choices). More than likely, if you connect the LG BD630 Blu-ray player with HDMI, then your HDTV is capable of at least 720p, and that will display fantastically through the BD630. If not, 1080i is available through Component or 480i through composite.
All modern Blu-ray players upscale DVD's to 1080p, and the LG BD630 player is no exception. There's no need to repurchase your favorites as Blu-ray discs unless you just want the higher detail available in Blu-ray discs.
What we do have with the LG BD630 player is a much faster load of Blu-ray discs than previous players. One annoyance with Blu-ray has been the slow load time associated with the player processing the data on the discs. The LG BD630 practically halves the speed from its predecessors (BD530, BD550) getting the content on your screen with much more speed than we're typically accustomed to seeing.
There's literally nothing to keep you from enjoying the entertainment experience of the LG BD630 player if the sole reason for owning a Blu-ray device is a better and higher quality picture and the ability to access Netflix, CinemaNow, Vudu, and Youtube content.

That being said, the LG BD630 player does not have the ability to go wireless. In fact, you can't even purchase one of those dongles that LG sells for other Blu-ray players to make the BD630 wireless. If you are nerd like me, there are ways to go wireless still, but additional equipment is needed, and honestly you might as well purchase a Wi-Fi ready Blu-ray player (like the BD640).
The LG BD630 player also has limited internet "apps" available in its interface. The popular Netflix, Vudu, CinemaNow, and Youtube are there. But the ability to add more, whether now, or with software downloads from LG later are not available. Outside of Amazon Instant Video and Pandora, those are the most popular services available via Blu-ray players today, and if those services are what you want, then this is all you need. I don't like to be limited myself, but honestly, no player is going to have everything I want, especially at this price, so I'm willing to overlook the ability to upgrade.
The LG BD630 Blu-ray player upgrades the extremely popular LG BD530 player by adding Netflix and CinemaNow capability, creating a leaner device than it's older counterpart, and upgrading the audio codecs for a much higher quality sound. All of that and the price only seems to have increased by around $10! Getting a high quality Blu-ray device like the LG BD630 for less than $120 feels like a steal to me!
