LG Infinia 42LV5500 HDTV Review

I've got just one word for the LG Infinia 42LV5500 HDTV: Beautiful! And I used that word because this is probably the only affordable HDTV that I've seen on my many trips to Best Buy that actually was able to stop me in my tracks. If you have seen it on display also, especially at that particular store, they will probably have it set to the sweet dashboard setup built into the LG 42LV5500 television, which not only displays the show being watched, but also all of the options you have as the owner or user of the television. All of it, displaying at the same time if you so choose.
I thought that maybe I should actually review the LG Infinia 42LV5500 HDTV as the fantastic LED television it is first, or maybe the bargain pricing available for this particular television from the manufacturer, but that great dashboard requires me to focus on it first and maybe just a little more explanation in this review.
The LG Infinia 42LV5500 HDTV's dashboard is sorta like a windows or Mac display. When the dashboard is displayed, you have the program being watched in a small window to the left (so that you can continue to watch the program while in the dashboard mode). To the right of the program picture are two more "windows". One displays the premium streaming app content available from the LG app store and the last displays app icons for items like games and social media (think Twitter and Facebook).

Just below those three windows is the launcher bar. The launcher bar includes an app link to the LG app store, so you can add more apps to the dashboard, a simple web browser, and any other app you might want to add to your Smart TV setup. Search is also available from the launcher, making it a bit simpler to find the items you want to add.
Why is the LG Infinia 42LV5500 HDTV's dashboard so great? It gives a much better organized screen than other HDTV's that include apps in their interfaces. While there are very few apps available on the LG 42LV5500 HDTV that aren't available elsewhere, none outside of the LG Infinia series provide a way to migrate to the apps easier than this series.

Adding to the ease of use is the "magic motion" remote. The "magic motion" remote for the LG Infinia 42LV5500LG HDTV only has five buttons, making it about 50 less buttons than today's typical remotes. It doesn't need a bunch of buttons because it works much like a Nintendo Wii controller works. Just point the remote at the television to bring up the cross hair, and move it to where you want. Press the enter button where you want to interact with the television, and the television responds. The LG Infinia HDTV couldn't be easier and quick to work with!
I should point out that if all you want to do is watch a program, the dashboard can be made to disappear, so don't worry that owning this television requires the dashboard to always be displayed. It can be put away quite easily with the remote. Use the simple remote to bring the Smart TV dashboard back when needed.
I've spent all the time talking about the dashboard on the television and practically none on the picture, but there is no disappointment in the LED lit display on the LG Infinia 42LV5500 HDTV. The 42-inch HDTV is just the right size to provide the best possible picture brightness and deep black colors without losing the sharpness in quality. LG did have a habit of designing LCD HDTV's with too much softness for my liking, but this HDTV has probably the clearest display I've seen in a 42-inch LED lit television.
The blacks could be a bit deeper with the contrast ratio of 5 million: 1 being lower than the standard of 6,000,000 that is being set. But the 120MHz refresh rate makes up for the this by almost completely removing any blur seen in the picture. Extremely fast objects on the screen will still blur a bit, as they do on practically all HDTV's, but the LG Infinia series does a great job of reducing it to where it's barely noticeable.
The price of the LG 42LV5500 is less than we expected for this size LED HDTV with the apps available and Wi-Fi being included. Most televisions that include Amazon's VOD tend to be priced just a bit higher, but not so with the Infinia series of televisions! Check one out at your local Best Buy to see if you too find the picture just amazing, and then come back to Amazon and get a real bargain on this television!
