Manufactured by Yamaha from 1994 to 2007, the Yamaha YZF 600 was known by the moniker “Thundercat”. It was for the sport bike 600 cc market, having a 599 cc engine that was a higher torque producer than the YZF-r6. Throughout the different production years for the Yamaha YZF600 there were no major alterations, instead only minor cosmetic changes. The Yamaha YZF 600r has major changes from its sister bike the YZF r6. Statistically the Yamaha YZF 600r had a weigh in of 417 pounds, a steel frame (the R6 has an aluminum frame and is lighter), a sturdy one piece seat, and 4 cylinder with 90bhp inline engine that revs lower and produces more torque than the R6.

The Yamaha YZF 600 R was also a bargain for the sport bike world, averaging just $7,000 (thousands less than its competitors), all while receiving kudos throughout the forums, bike communities, and biking clubs. It was a nice bike to customize and accessorize, having many different sport touring applications, a fan favorite all around sport bike. It was designed with great ergonomics and wind protection. The Yamaha YZF 600r was discontinued in its European markets in 2005 due to emissions restrictions and in the U.S. and Canada markets in 2008.
