The Nike+ SportWatch with TomTom GPS is the kind of product where it sounds great on paper to do, but the end result comes out a little flat. Nike is of course known world wide for being at least in the top 3 of athletic shoes and equipment, and TomTom is more than likely 1 or 2 on the list of top GPS makers. So it makes sense for the companies to combine to create a GPS style sport watch that can work with the Nike+ running shoe kit. After all, that particular kit works well with the Apple iPod and iPhone. Why not with a watch?

Well for one thing, neither of these companies is very good at designing watches, so maybe they should have brought in an expert there, too. The Nike+ SportWatch is a bit hit and miss in quality. If the watch you purchase happens to have been produced on a good day for the manufacturing plant, then you will absolutely love this running accessory. On the other hand, if it was a bad day in China (or wherever the watch was put together), then expect some quality problems.

Let's run with a good Nike+ SportWatch, though, for the purposes here. What the watch aims to do is generate a more accurate output of the actual run by the person wearing the watch. Using the integratd TomTom GPS along with the Nike+ sensor, the watch tracks every step taken at each point in the route to determine the actual speed, pace, and distance of the runner.

Once your run is complete, the Nike+ SportWatch can be plugged into any Windows or Mac computer to download the records from the watch and into the Nike+ system. This is usually where the problem begin with many users. We can't blame Nike completely for this issue, as many poor reviews of the product are probably from those with poor performing computers. For those that do manage to connect the SportWatch to the site, everything should be wonderful from there.

With all of the problem reported on the Nike+ SportWatch, is it worth it to purchase? If running is your passion and you want a more accurate reading than what you get with just the Nike+ sensor and your Apple device, then yes it is. At this time, the kinks more than likely have been worked out and the 2nd generation of the watch should not have quite the issues that the first generation had.

If you only run for fun and just need a general idea of your distance, pace, and time, then just stick with the Nike+ Sensor kit and your iPod. At $200, this watch is probably too expensive for just a hobby. And the fact that it doesn't come complete with the sensor nor the heart rate monitor makes getting the watch right a more expensive proposition than the $200 price tag lets on.
