- A 3-inch "Super-Density" horizontal LCD Monitor. The LCD monitor is an upgrade from the previous camera models with the LCD movement switching from bottom movement to a left-side hinge. Those using the D3100 found that the LCD movement wasn't useful in a tripod type setting. Nikon has corrected this with the D5100.

The Nikon D5100 builds upon the strong DS CMOS sensor typically found in more professional cameras by providing ISO as high as 12,800 and 25,600.
Some of the key differentiating factors that you will want to consider in contrast to other cameras include options for an effects mode, awesome ISO range, ultra-clear LCD display and the dual IR receivers.
Other considerations in favor of the Nikon D5100 DSLR camera include the following. First, it's smaller than the D5000. This realization provides for a more natural fit in one's hand. Second, it takes great HD video, in addition to taking stellar still photos as well.
