Sometimes it's good to just have a camera handy that doesn't take a lot of effort to learn how to use and is quick enough to get some shots in without having to think about the operation of the camera. The Olympus Stylus 5010 camera is precisely one of these cameras.
While the 5010 has the ability to do just about anything you want out of a point-and-shoot camera (high megapixel rating, image stabilizers, large LCD, and HD video abilities), the camera doesn't require a lot of thought to get the most out of these options. And that's good, because the size of the Olympus Stylus 5010 camera doesn't exactly lend to a lot of maneuvering.

But being small doesn't mean that the features you want have been left off. The Olympus Stylus 5010 camera has a high megapixel rating for it's category, coming in at 14 megapixels against a CCD sensor. And the lens lends itself to very high quality photos with the wide-angle feature that most camera manufacturers use now. Wide angle is almost a given on even the cheapest cameras, to allow for greater photo captures while zooming in on your subjects.
The 5010 lens has a bit more capabilities than we expected, starting with the zoom. While other tiny point-and-shoot cameras depend on the digital zoom more than optical, the Olympus Stylus 5010 camera matches both up equally at 5x zoom. You will find that the lens is capable of lengthening itself more than you anticipated in the tiny little camera body.

The optical zoom also manages to allow for some fairly close "close-ups". Normal modes have a standard of just under two feet for a perfectly good close-up, but the Olympus Stylus 5010 shines in the macro and super macro mode where the photographer can really get close at less than 3" and still have a fantastic shot!
Getting close does tend to blur the lines of photos a bit, especially if lighting is poor, but the Olympus 5010 helps with this by providing dual image stabilizers. Olympus uses sensor shift against the image stabilizers in determining what to capture to prevent blurs, and all in all does a good job of doing so. Lighting may cause the image stabilizer to not perform as well, and the stabilizers do slow down the performance of the camera some what.
If we had an issue with the Olympus Stylus 5010 camera, it would probably be in the LCD size. The 5010 only carries a 2.7" LCD, and then it's only 230,000 pixelated. However, the size of the LCD has a direct connection with the size of the camera itself, and needed to be this small to still fit the controls (including the one touch movie controls) on the rear. If newer versions of the Stylus were to carry a touchscreen instead, I'm sure that the screen size would increase.
I did just mention this briefly above, but the Olympus Stylus 5010 digital camera also carries the ability to record HD movies. By using the one touch button (seen on almost all point-and-shoot cameras now), the photographer can almost immediately switch from taking still photos to 720p HD quality video. If you pop in an 8Gb memory card, you can record for almost an hour and a half at this resolution before needing to switch to a new card. That's almost certainly plenty of video for most instances.
Olympus Stylus 5010 Camera Photos
There is really only one weird thing I've noticed about this particular camera: there is no black version! While most cameras do have a black version (which is also usually the most popular), the Olympus Stylus 5010 titanium 14mp digital camera is the top version of the 5010 run. Olympus also makes a blue and pink version of the camera, but those are not nearly as popular as the titanium.
If the goal is to purchase a simple, small, and easy to use camera, there are just a few good choices on the market today. If the need for a bargain camera is also placed in the mix, then there are fewer still! The Olympus Stylus 5010 is priced at or below $100 and makes an excellent choice for an everyday use camera that can be ready to go at any time!
