Many of the ulta compacts available today make an attempt at providing both a high megapixel resolution lens, at least 5x of optical zoom, and then tack on HD video at the 720p level. Now while you can't take those HD videos I mentioned earlier, you can still shoot video with the Stylus 7030. It's not 720p quality, but just a bit lower at 640x480 (or 320x240 for smaller files). At 30 frames per second, you will be able to record a fair amount of video to the camera's internal memory (around 7-8 minutes worth). But slide an 8Gb SDHC memory card into the camera, and get more than an hour at a time. The 5x digital zoom is available to the photographer while shooting video, so the shot can be zoomed in or out at will. And you'll want to do that, since the Olympus 7030 camera also features a wide angle lens, allowing for a more panoramic shot then many of its competitors.

Because the Olympus Stylus 7030 camera was designed more for the bargain hunter than for the professional photographer, Olympus wanted to make the camera as easy as possible to operate. Letting the photographer focus more on the subject on the 2.7" LCD screen and less on how to make the subject look good is a primary objective of the 7030 digital camera. So the 7030 carries dual image stabilization to help alleviate any blurring associated with fast moving objects within the shot, or with any camera shaking it senses. The auto focus also tracks those fast moving objects and adjusts the focus and the light automatically to still capture the best shot possible.

The Olympus Stylus 7030 also features a few creative items as well. Professional photographers like to experiment with lens filters like pinhole and fisheye, and Olympus thought the owners of the 7030 Stylus would also. For more fun, you may also add art graphics and drawings to the pictures after they have been shot! No, you probably won't use these filters much, if ever, but they can be fun to use, so we recommend you try. At least for the laughs!

Other reviews for the Olympus Stylus 7030 camera have mentioned just a couple of problems that we really didn't have time to investigate ourselves, but we want to make you aware of nonetheless. One is the battery power which depending on your use may or may not be a problem. If you plan on taking hundreds of photos a day (over 300), then it would be a good idea to purchase a spare rechargeable battery. They cost about $14, and for that low a cost, it's really a good idea to purchase.

The other problem is that it could be tricky to download the photos from the 7030 camera to your computer via the USB cable. We did not find this to be a problem, as we are very electronics oriented, so this type of thing comes easy to us. But if you are new to electronics, it might be an issue for you. We recommend reading the manually thoroughly if you find yourself in need of help in downloading your work. Or, just purchase an SD/SDHC card reader instead!

For the price, we believe the Olympus Stylus 7030 digital camera makes a great day trip camera. It's light, slim, and easy to use, and includes substantial internal memory (829Mb) to capture almost as many photos as one would need over a few hours of use.
