The Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 camera also records high definition videos with just the press of a button. Even under water, the 6020 will records in up to 720p, if that's your choice, to provide almost the highest quality video on a point-and-shoot camera. How high def your videos appear will depend on just how clear the water is when shooting from below the waves. But for above the water, the dual image stabilization mechanism helps to eliminate blurring in the Olympus 6020 camera's output.

Unlike other digital cameras, the Olympus Stylus 6020 camera includes a large amount of internal memory. 1 gigabyte is available to you at startup, and should allow you or another photographer ample time to play taking photos or video before you'll need to install an SD or SDHC memory card. When recording video, you may reduce image quality down to 480p and below to save space, but memory cards are pretty cheap, so buy a couple and shoot in 720p with the 6020 camera.

One sticking point is in the display. The LCD screen on the Olympus 6020 Stylus isn't as large as we would like to see, at only 2.7". Comparable cameras do sell with a 3-inch display, and we would like to see it increased a bit. That being said, .3" isn't that much difference, and really only becomes a problem when attempting to shoot underwater. It's just easier to see the display in water when it's made larger. The Olympus 6020 camera's big brother, the Olympus 8010 also features just a 2.7" screen, so this seems to be Olympus' standard.

Also standard on the Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 are the usual face detection functions, auto focus, and intelligent auto, which allows the camera to determine the environment the photo or video is being shot, and to make adjustments to create the best possible shot without manual intervention. As I said, pretty standard fair for a point-and-shoot camera.

What isn't standard is Beauty Mode. Beauty Mode is something I've not seen (or haven't noticed) on a camera before, and it seems intriguing given that I'm getting older. Beauty Mode attempts to remove wrinkles and blemishes from the faces it recognizes in each shot, or at least smooths over the wrinkles and blends in the shadows to create a smooth clean face. This can be done automatically by choosing the Beauty Mode option on the Olympus 6020, or can be used to "correct" faces manually after the shot has been taken. I'm sure there are plenty of women (and men) out there who would like to remove a wrinkle or two from photos taken of them!

As you can see, the Olympus Stylus Tough 6020 digital camera makes a great camera even if you don't consider the features that Olympus really wants you to see when considering a purchase. The casing that makes the Olympus Tough 6020 camera waterproof isn't so bulky that it takes away from the functional aspects of the camera. A lot of waterproof cases that can be purchased for DSLR cameras are just downright ugly, but the Olympus Tough 6020 camera's case is stylish, giving a perfect camera to use even if you aren't planning a trip to explore a reef or ski down a mountain!
