As a follow-up to the masticating juicer we featured yesterday, we thought it was a good time for a review of the Omega J8006 Juicer! We wrote about the 8005 juicer a couple of weeks ago, and quite honestly the Omega J8006 review is really going to be just a rehash of the 8005 because there is very little difference in the two. The Omega J8006 does feature a far superior auger, which Omega says is around 8 times as strong as the auger placed into its counterpart.
What this means for you is that the 8006 juicer makes a better daily juicer than the older models. If daily juicing is what you are after with this purchase, then go with the Omega 8006. If juicing is a weekly or twice a week affair, and you can get a better bargain on the 8005, we recommend it!

The beauty in the Omega J8006 juicer is in the low speed technology that the device uses to juice. Spinning at 80 rpm's, the 8006 auger crushes the food product then extracts the juices in a two stage juicing process. This low speed juicing process is said to keep more of the nutrients, vitamins, and minerals intact than centrifugal juicers, as it doesn't pure or shred the food in a violent manner during the juicing process.

The low speed technology also lowers the risk of overheating the juicing machine, a very real problem in the high speed centrifugal juicers. The overheating is normally caused by more food being juiced than the filter can handle, causing backups in the process. Because the Omega J8006 juicer is slow, overheating is practically eliminated!
Low speeds in the Omega J8006 juicer will require some extra preparation time because this does make the juicing process a good bit slower. If quickness is a feature you need in a juicer, then the Omega 8006 will not be the best choice for you or your household. But because the juicing process is better, and does provide a better tasting and higher vitamin content juice, we still recommend it. This may mean creating juices the night before instead of during your morning rush period.
The design of the Omega J8006 juicer is just a bit different from the J8005, but only in the handle. While the 8005 had a handle that folded into the body of the juicer, the Omega J8006 handle is fixed. This doesn't make the juicer any taller, and seems to function better. The 8006 juicer is a bit heavy, and the moving handle would be subject to breakage where the fixed handle is far sturdier.
The Omega 8006 can serve more functions than just juicing, which to me is fairly important considering the cost of the unit. The 8006 is sold new with 6 different nozzles which can be used to make homemade pasta from scratch. We've never made homemade pasta, but we do drink a lot of soy milk, and so the Omega 8006 can be used to juice soy nuts into milk. Peanut butter and other nut butters can be produced with the juicer along with baby foods for fresh soft foods. Even coffee can be ground with the Omega 8006! We can pretty much think of anything that needs to be crushed, mushed, or ground, and prepare it in this device.
We find the price for most good quality juicers to be between the $230 to $400 mark, and the Omega J8006 sits right in the middle at around $280 (as of this writing). The 8005 is around $50 cheaper, so again we refer back to it if juicing is not an every day occurence for your family. If it is, or if creating nut butters, pasta, and baby food will be a part of the machine's use, then we recommend the Omega J8006 just because of the stronger, and longer lasting auger.
