Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 Micro Four Thirds Camera Reviewed

The best part about mid to high end cameras, at least from a bargain perspective, is that when the latest releases are made available, the models that came before are almost always reduced quickly thereafter. The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 micro four thirds camera embodies that very fact. As the first mass produced micro four thirds camera available, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 camera has since been redesigned and re-released as the DMC-G2, which sets you up for a great deal on a great micro four thirds camera.

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 micro four thirds camera is a 12.1 megapixel camera using a Live MOS sensor which gives you the option of using the electronic viewfinder or the 3" LCD monitor in Live View mode. The micro four thirds body style trims the body down from the DSLR camera size by removing the mirrors associated with a normal viewfinder. And if you think that an electronic viewfinder isn't as good as the pentaprism, you might just be wrong since the Live View mode delivers video to your eye at 60 frames per second.

The removal of the mirrors and the mirror box associated has also helped to reduce the size of the lens that can be attached to micro four thirds cameras like the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 camera. Just like the Lumix G Vario lens that is normally sold with the Panasonic G1, most lenses associated with the interchangeable lens cameras are much smaller than the standard sized DSLR lenses or the standard 4/3's lenses. Of course, with an adapter, you can also connect the larger 4/3 lenses.
So the real beauty in a micro four thirds camera like the Panasonic Lumix DMC-G1 is to bring a high level of photographic ability into a much smaller design, but that doesn't mean that those are all the features available to the the G1 camera. The G1 is highly technical, and allows the photographer a lot of room to manipulate into the perfect shot with manual controls. But when you don't have time for shot setup, the owner of the DMC-G1 can select to use the Intelligent Auto feature. That would normally mean auto focus and scene selection in other cameras, but with the G1 you also turn on face detection, hand shake detection (known as Mega O.I.S.), and motion detection which helps select the proper ISO and shutter speed for the shot. So the Panasonic DMC-G1 camera is designed for both the novice who wants to get into a higher level of photography, but sophisticated enough to allow the creativity of an expert photographer to shine through!
