Remove AntiVir Solution Pro Virus and Malware

Our family ran across AntiVir Solution Pro last night, a rogue anti-spyware program, which made itself right at home on my wife's computer. I'm sure AntiVir Solution Pro is a wonderful program (not), but what it did to our computer was to infect every program and caused the computer to be unusable. Thankfully Bleeping Computer comes to the rescue again with more instructions on how to remove AntiVir, and you can visit their site to see their exact steps on removing AntiVir Solution Pro. But for easy use (by me if it happens again), I've listed the steps I took below to remove the virus.

Removing AntiVir Solution Pro:

If you have AntiVir Solution Pro, you'll probably first notice that every website you try to visit comes up with a message that states, "Internet Explorer warning - visiting this site will harm your computer".  If you see this, along with the AntiVir pop-up window and/or the red box in the bottom right that says your computer is infected, then you need to stop right where you are and follow these steps:

  1. Borrow another computer:  you'll need to download a couple of programs to a CD or USB stick, and you won't be able to do it from your computer (because it's infected).
  2. Download rkill from BleepingComputer.com
  3. Download Malware Bytes Anti-malware from Bleeping Computer.
  4. Make sure you download both of these from the good computer before you put the USB stick in the infected one.  You do not want to infect the good PC while fixing the bad!
  5. Boot the infected computer into safe mode.
  6. Insert the USB stick into the infected computer, locate the rkill program and run it.  If you see any messages from AntiVir regarding rkill being infected, ignore them until rkill is finished, then run rkill again (with those messages still on), close the messages, then run rkill again.
  7. DO NOT reboot your computer after running rkill, as this will just allow AntiVir to start up again.
  8. Close all programs and all windows.
  9. Find the Malware Bytes program on the USB stick and run it (mbam-setup.exe).
  10. Once it is installed, leave all options as they are except change to "perform full scan" instead of "perform quick scan".  We want to go everywhere looking for AntiVir Solution Pro, and a quick scan won't do.  The full scan takes a long time (depending on how many programs and files you have installed on your PC).
  11. Once the full scan is complete, a window will display showing the infected programs and viruses found.  You will want to check the box next to each one, then press the "Remove All" button.
  12. At this point, you should bring up your web browser.
  13. Go into your Internet Options, select the Connections tab, and then deselect the "use a proxy server" option (if you don't typically use a proxy).  If you do use a proxy, you may need to see your web admin to determine what the setting are, or if you know, go into the proxy setup and change the settings back to what they should be.
  14. That's it!  AntiVir Solution Pro should be removed!  Be sure to visit Bleeping Computer for a more in-depth look at removing AntiVir and other rogue malware viruses.  Their site continues to be a major help to me!
