The Samsung BD-C6900 3D Blu-ray player should really be described as a fully functional entertainment center. But since the only thing Samsung left off the BD-C6900 player when packaging it was an actual speaker system, then we just have to say that's it quite possible to replace just about everything on your entertainment center.
With the Samsung BD-C6900 Blu-ray player, you can clear away the clutter, leaving a very clean physical interface to watch your HDTV, surf through your favorite social networks, listen to internet radio, and browse your Netflix queue while never picking up another remote.

You will of course need 3D ready HDTV to watch 3D movies with the Samsung BD-C6900, so if that's in your immediate future, you will need to research that item as well. We'll leave the HDTV's for another review but suffice it to say that if the television you choose is capable of 3D at 1080p, then you have a great head start on watching the latest 3D movies in your home.
The first thing we noticed about the Samsung BD-C6900 Blu-ray player is the clear top section, just over the inside of the player where the disc resides. This design appears to be put in place to allow for the crystal blue color to shine through as the disc is being played. This appeared like it might become a bit of an annoying factor, especially when watching in the dark, but it wasn't and it's not. The clear top could also be considered functional since you can see what disc is loaded without opening the tray.
If you aren't ready for 3D just yet, the Samsung BD-C6900 Blu-ray player can still function as a normal Blu-ray device until you are ready to lay down some cash on a 3D television. The 3D aspect is just a upgrade to a standard Samsung Blu-ray device, but doesn't get in the way of someone that just wants to watch a normal Blu-ray at optimum 1080p playback. The Samsung BD-C6900 also upconverts all of your old DVD's to a 720p like resolution.

As we mentioned, the Samsung BD-C6900 player is an internet-ready device with Wi-Fi functionality built-in. Using the on-screen menus you'll setup the BD-C6900 to connect to your home router wirelessly. Doing so gives you access to Samsung apps that are already installed along with several that you can download to the C6900 player. Some of our favorites that we certainly expect to find are here (like Netflix and Pandora), but there are others like a Twitter and Facebook app that we didn't expect to find at all. It's a bit difficult to type a lot of detail into Twitter and Facebook statuses with the remote, but for short bursts of chat, it's not anymore difficult than using a typical internet ready cellphone (iPhones and Blackberry excluded).
BD-Live is also included on the Samsung BD-C6900 player. BD-Live allows for extra content to be downloaded via the internet as a disc is placed into the Blu-ray player, giving production companies easier access to the customers they are serving and the extra content you might enjoy.
For the latest movies that you might rent from your local Redbox or video rental store, you may instead want to use the Blockbuster app built into the Samsung BD-C6900 player. While Netflix is great for older TV shows and movies, the Blockbuster app gives you access to just released movies, so you don't have purchase any movies at all if renting is better. The Samsung BD-C6900 Blu-ray device includes 1 gigabyte of memory to download the movies so if your internet connection tends to be spotty, you won't have to suffer the aggravation of renting a choppy flick.
If all you need is a Blu-ray player, then the Samsung BD-C6900 Blu-ray player is going to seem extremely expensive. Selling for around $300 (as of this writing), the BD-C6900 does offer a lot more than it's $100 brethren. Obviously you get the 3D technology, so if your plans are to get to 3D now or a year from now, it's a good idea to set yourself up with a 3D capable player now. If you are tired of looking at all of the equipment on your entertainment center, and just want to simplify, the Samsung BD-C6900 can simplify very quickly will its ability to take over for old DVD players, 2D Blu-ray devices, Internet TV hardware, and even game consoles (if you don't mind losing console specific games)!
