Most recumbent exercise bikes tend to cause back strain to me instead what they are supposed to do: provide support to already painful backs. Maybe that's due to the back of the bike being far too low on my spine or maybe it's something else, but no matter. For the purposes of this review, I found the Schwinn 220 recumbent bike to actually work the way it is supposed to!
What leads to this better comfort is the way the Schwinn 220 recumbent bike is designed in the seat area. Instead of providing a seat that just slides back and forth, the 220's seat is also capable of being adjusted laterally. So you can set it up in a more relaxing position if you want or if you feel more comfortable laying back slightly.

For those that like a straight up and down position, the seat can be setup that way as well, accommodating whomever needs it and what special sitting requirements he or she might have. For those that still don't fill steady while riding or just want some additional support, handlebars are built into the Schwinn 220 and are at the ready should they be needed.

The Schwinn 220 bike includes 10 programs for you to choose from against 16 different resistance levels to suit both your exercise level and your mood. With the ability to check your heart rate (albeit just a contact heart rate monitor), the user of this exercise bike should be able to find a good stride at an optimal rate for his or her fitness level.
Front and center on the Schwinn 220 bike is the LCD for a quick check of the profile being used and all of the other information typically associated with a stationary bike. One fan is just above the display (although it's pretty lightweight). A speaker to play music via your MP3 player is located just below the display for those who want to drop the headphones while exercising.
After that, the Schwinn 220 recumbent bike is pretty much a standard stationary bicycle, so the real benefit to the 220 over other bikes is the comfort of the seat. If other stationary bike makers would take note of this great addition, then maybe one or two of them could take a shot at making the LCD just a little bit better for the more bargain versions of your favorite stationary bikes.
