It's been a long time since we wrote a review on an HDTV, but the review we have to today is a great one! Not only is the Sharp LC40LE830U 40-inch HDTV a great television with it's more brilliant display than its competitors, but frankly this HDTV is just a steal with a price way, way below $900 (as of this writing).
We'll help you find the best bargain on the 40-inch Sharp Aquos Quattron HDTV for you in a bit, but first we need to go over why we are excited about this particular Sharp television.

The Sharp LC40LE830U 40-inch HDTV has a specially designed display that produces a brighter output while still consuming less energy than a traditional LCD HDTV. The display, or "X-display", merges the traditional LCD display with LED light providing the back lighting to produce the extra brightness that the television promises.
Incorporating a system of LED backlit bulbs provides the Sharp LC40LE830U television with a way to provide the best of LED (less blurring; sharp output) without the cost associated in going full LED. The LCD part of the Sharp Aquos Quattron 40 inch HDTV's display takes care of providing the energy needed to provide not only the power needed to take care of what the LED does not, but also to provide a more enhance color scheme. Most televisions use only red, blue, and green to reproduce every color in the rainbow.

And that typically makes sense, if you remember going to school and learning that these three colors can be used to reproduce any color. But the Sharp LC40LE830U and it's Quattron display also uses yellow to reproduce color in that particularly spectrum more faithfully.
Our eyes are accustomed to the yellows of the displays on the LCD, LED, and other monitors we might have today, but once you see how the Sharp Quattron HDTV's can provide a more realistic gold color, I think you'll understand why making the RGB an RGBY is so much better!
The Sharp LC40LE830U 40-inch HDTV also goes to the trouble of providing several of the more popular internet portals on the television. Frankly, we aren't so excited about a television that has it's own apps, as this makes it easier for most of the entire home entertainment system to go up in smoke if the television goes too. But we can see the value in having the apps available on the television, especially if the world continues down the road of streaming content and leaving Blu-ray and DVD's behind.

That being said, the Sharp LC40LE830U HDTV does go a step further than other televisions by providing built-in Wi-Fi access on the television! If you own the LC40LE830U, there's no need to cable up to use the apps. Locate your wireless router via the television's setup menu, put in the internet security password (if you have it turned on), and it's ready to go! Well, as soon as you enter your account information for Netflix, Blockbuster, Vudu, CinemaNow, and the other apps available to the television.
If content is stored on other devices in your home, and those devices are DLNA certified, then the Sharp LC40LE830U HDTV can connect to those electronics and play content directly from them. The only rule is that all have to be simultaneously connected to the home network for DLNA to work.
What the Sharp Aquos Quattron HDTV Is Missing: I am a BIG proponent of Amazon's Video on Demand service, and not just because we promote Amazon Prime here at the site. While Netflix is good, in the long run, I believe that Amazon is going to take control of the video streaming business, and Netflix will be an "also ran". Much like Netflix did to Blockbuster and their video store business, so no hard feelings. If you like Netflix over Amazon VOD, then the Sharp LC40LE830U is easily the best choice. If Amazon's service is more your style, then you may not get as much use out of the apps installed on the HDTV.
With that said, we are subscribers to both services, and so the Sharp Aquos Quattron 40-inch HDTV wins out for us! With a fantastically low price, the energy savings and fantastic picture provided by the LED with the power of LCD and 1080p, there's really not much to dislike about this television. The included Wi-Fi capability without the need to purchase extra hardware makes this HDTV an even better deal!
