Sony Alpha DSLR-A550L 14.2 megapixel Digital Camera

We have recently reviewed the Sony Alpha DSLR-A550L camera, and thought we should share some of our experiences with it. The Sony Alpha A550L DSLR is Sony's latest attempt at moving photographers out of the amateur ranks and into a more professional photographer's camera with it's end details couple with still a few automatic features to give those closer to a novice level a little bit of comfort. You can go lower or higher end in this range of Sony camera's, so hopefully our A550L camera review will help you decide if the A550L is right for you!

First of, the picture quality on the Sony Alpha DSLR-A550L is pretty amazing! The DSLR-A550 has incredible detail at 14.2 megapixels and this is compounded by Sony's new Exmore CMOS image sensor. Sony wanted to reduce and eliminate grainy and blurry photos with this camera, and the Exmore CMOS sensor is their solution to those problems.

Owners of the Sony Alpha DSLR-A550L camera will also enjoy the Live View built into the camera, which allows you to preview the shots on the LCD monitor as you are taking the photos, as opposed to after. And it's an angling LCD monitor also, so you can hold the camera at any angle between 0° and 90° and still be able to see what you are trying to shoot. If you are a traditionalist, the Alpha DSLR-A550L still has a viewfinder, but you'll probably find yourself not using it for your more candid shots.

The Sony Alpha DSLR-A550L camera also does exceptionally well under low light conditions. You'll still be able to get really high resolution with the built-in low light technology, even as far up as ISO 12800. You will never feel that your photographs suffered in low light with this camera.

Sometimes you may want to get a clear portrait and the DSLR-A550L's face detection feature is extremely helpful in that regard. I can get a finely detailed portrait shot by simply activating the face detection feature and it definitely gives me a level of convenience that I can't find in other digital SLR's.

Another feature that will allow you to take high-quality portraits is the Smile Shutter feature. Once the Smile Shutter feature is turned on, the DSLR-A550L automatically takes a portrait shot when the subject smiles. This is great for times when I need a spontaneous smile and I don't want to have to time everything perfectly.

If you use High Dynamic Range processing in developing your photos, you'll be happy to know that the DSLR-A550L already has High Dynamic Range built into the camera. So, once you take your shot, you won't need to fix the photos on your computer with your software. You may still want to crop or move, but Sony wants it to be a rare thing indeed for the owner to have to fix their shots.

Last but not least, the Sony DSLR-A550L camera has a really long battery life. It doesn't require recharging until around 950 shots, which is usually more than enough for everyone except maybe the professional photographers who work in the major sports industries.
