With it's ability to stream content across your wireless network, downloadable software that turns your iPhone into a remote for the S570, and the upscaling of any DVD's you might own, the Sony BDP-S570 Blu-ray player seems well equipped to be the centerpiece of the home's entertainment center for many reviews. First of is the 3D technology. 3D isn't going anywhere, no matter how I feel about it at this point. So purchasing a Blu-ray player that is capable of playing back 3D content is a must unless you want to purchase another device soon. The Sony BDP-S570 3D player not only plays 3D content, but also displays them in 1080p resolution, providing the best possible view of the content (provided your HDTV is also capable of 1080p or 3D). If your HDTV isn't 3D compatible, the S570 player still plays content at 1080p, but I don't suggest you attempt to play 3D discs.

The other important aspect of Blu-ray players for sale today is what type of content can be streamed to the device. The Sony BDP-S570 Blu-ray player has several options for you, but the three best are Amazon's Video on Demand, Netflix, and Pandora Radio. While Pandora is free, Netflix and Amazon's Video service are not. Netflix billing starts around $9 a month for streaming only. Amazon's service is not a monthly charge, but a content charge, where you pay for the movie rental or purchase before you watch the content. Hulu Plus, Qriocity (music and movies), NPR, Youtube, and blip.tv are also services available to the BDP-S570 player, and stream across the Bravia Internet Video service (free with the player).
To help stream the content from Netflix, etc., the Sony BDP-S570 Blu-ray player includes built-in Wi-fi hardware to allow you to connect the player to your home network without wires. As long as a wireless router is provided in your home, the S570 Blu-ray player can connect and stream the content. It does take a it of setup from within the menus, but the instruction manual makes it very easy to get connected quickly.
Along with this original content streaming is the opportunity to stream content that already resides in your home; namely on your home computers or laptops. The Sony BDP-S570 Blu-ray player can access almost any non-DRM video file, music file, or photo on your home PC's, and stream that content through the BDP-S570 player to your television. If you've ever attempted to connect a laptop to an HDTV, you know it's pretty cumbersome, so this feature will be a definite plus for those who have a lot of content that resides on home computers. Please note that AVI and DIVX format content files are not supported by the BDP-S570 player. Those will not stream, and does lead to one of the very few downsides of owning this particular player.
And finally, the Sony BDP-S570 3D Blu-ray player wouldn't be a good buy unless we could make it bridge from our old DVD collection to our new Blu-ray disc collection, and it does that just fine. You will need to provide your own HDMI cable for upscaling your DVD's to HD quality, but you need that cable anyway to play any of the content in the highest HD format. (Footnote: Anyone have any idea why Blu-ray players don't include HDMI cables? They can be purchased for less than $10, so why not include them?)
The Sony BDP-S570 3D Blu-ray player has dropped significantly in price over the last few months, as have most Blu-ray players. The S570 can be purchased for under $150 (as of this writing) from our partners above. If you don't plan on streaming AVI or DIVX videos from your computer, then the options available to you with the S570 Blu-ray player make the product just about as perfect as a Blu-ray player can be. Maybe an actual browser for the internet would make the BDP-S570 a better Blu-ray player, but honestly you may just want to check out Sony Internet TV for something that robust!
