Spark Glow and Drive – I Review Some VitaminWater Zero Drinks
Pin It
Since I've bailed on sodey pop (as the old folks used to say), I've had to find a way to get that caffeine-like punch in the morning, or frankly I'll never get up and go anywhere. First option around is here usually the old stand-by of Gatorade, but I gotta find something with the least amount of sugar or I get just a bit too much going on in the drink.

So I've settled on VitaminWater, which by all accounts is a fairly sugary drink in itself, so I've had to try and stick with the VitaminWater Zero to still get some kick without the sugar overload. Once deciding upon this stuff, though, the real fun begins in finding a flavor that doesn't suck. There might just be 5,000 different flavors of VitaminWater (maybe overestimating that by 1 or 2), but fully half of them kinda suck in flavoring. Unfortunately the makers of the drink have decided that the suckiest drinks should be the only ones to be sold in Mississippi, so I'm normally stuck with the oh so crappy Mega-C and Go-Go Zero, which aren't even good in the "not zero" brands.
Thankfully, Tennessee isn't far away, so I made a trip up to Memphis yesterday and picked up some new flavors: Spark, Glow, and Drive. Freaking A! Those names just sound awesome, and with the nuclear reactor colors, look like more fun than flipping a mountain bike (which is of course what got me in this mess in the first place).
Now for those paying attention, the VitaminWater Spark flavor isn't a Zero flavor, but I'm flying blind here on Zero flavors, so if I came home with a lot of watered down crap with nothing good at all, then major issue for me to have to drink a bunch of half mixed sugar free Kool-Aids.
VitaminWater Spark is a grape and blueberry blend flavored drink, and that's about as far as they go in dressing up the naming of the drink. Spark is full of all the Vitamin C and B-vitamins you could want, but most of these drinks have that, so it doesn't make it more special. It does taste a little bit more grape with a hint of blueberry skin in the mix. Yes, the dirty blueberry skin flavor, not the fruit itself. Normally that would be bad, but I'm dealing with junk Zero drinks already, so this is great! 2nd best flavor of the three that I purchased!

Glow Zero is my least favorite of the three VitaminWater drinks, but it's still better than what I'm used to on a daily basis. My friends over at TheImpulsiveBuy called it a girly drink due to its focus on helping support healthy skin and nails, and I tend to agree. The flavor is way too light, and the pink coloring is far too girly for me. But what really sets it off is the funky name they've given this Strawberry and Banana concoction: strawberry-guanabana. Doesn't that sound like some sort of venereal disease? It's just wrong no matter how you think about it. If given a choice, I'd prefer Guanabana to the Go-Go Zero (which incidentially is also a light pink and lightly flavored). But I think I'd just rather have neither.

My true love for this VitaminWater excursion has got to be the Drive Zero flavor. This toxic orange drink didn't seem to have a great taste at first, but once chilled it has a real nice pulpless orange juice flavor. But it's my real favorite due to the inclusion of Yerba Mate. As I said in the beginning, I need my caffeine fix, and VitaminWater Drive has it with caffeine being added with the inclusion of a bit of coffee and of course the Yerba Mate. VitaminWater Drive also has the distinction of being cheaper than the bottled Guayaki bottled teas.
I bought enough of these to have a couple for the week because the one problem with them is that they are pretty costly by themselves. Target had them on sale for $1 a piece, which is a bit too high for just the one drink. You can get the price down to about 50 cents a bottle, but that's only in the 24 packs and of course that package includes the crap drinks like my not-so-favorites I already have available locally.
If you haven't, go ahead and give Spark and Drive a shot to see if those flavors will suit your tastebuds, but leave the venereal diseased Guanabana on the shelf!
