Speed Dreams – an Open Source Racing Simulator

With the cost of new video games starting at $50-$60, it's not so easy to find a bargain. But in the open source world, one can find some fairly decent to awesome games for free!
Such is the case with Speed Dreams, an open source racing simulator from Eckhard M. Jäger (and others, but I'll list his name for brevity). The Speed Dreams game is a 250 Mb download to be run on Windows XP, Windows 7, or Linux (several flavors of that), with a Mac version coming soon. Speed Dreams features tons of cars and tracks built around a 3D engine that honestly rivals the types of games you can purchase for your console. You can find some of your favorite super cars, GTS-1, or GTP cars on Speed Dreams, and once you have the download installed, you can happily start racing away!
I think the best part of the Speed Dreams game might be that you can help make the game a success. Becoming a developer would obviously help, and since it's an open source project, you can certainly do that. But you can also help make the game better by downloading the game and providing feedback as a user. Very rarely do gamers get a chance to voice their opinions on a game, so this is a great opportunity!
To see more on Speed Dreams, visit the Speed Dreams website. And of course, download the game and try it out for yourself! If you are a gamer, then this is one game bargain that you really can't pass up!
