Of course, how many roads are really changing across the nation, or being added in a 5-10 year time period? Not an awful lot, so for the most part the TomTom 540S GPS will last a long time with very little effort in getting you to your destination without the need for updates. If it were me, and I planned on going on a trip to a new neighborhood, I would probably just use the MapShare portion to add-in that point-of-interest so that my GPS could get me where I want to go.

If you are worried about the TomTom 540S GPS being stolen while away from your card, it's very easy to take it with you. The mount folds into the back of the unit, and being only just a couple of inches deep, it's easy to stow in a bag or under the seat.

Like we said in the beginning, aside from the ability to get lifetime map updates, there is virtually no difference in all of the different GPS units available on the market today. We strongly recommend just purchasing a GPS, like the TomTom XXL 540S GPS, because the bargain price is really the overriding factor here. With a huge screen and simple to read directions, or easy to understand voice directions, the 540S has everything I could need.
