I cannot make it without my external hard drive, and anytime I can find a good deal on one, I like to try and inspire others to purchase one!  Amazon has a good deal on the Toshiba 500Gb Canvio Plus external hard drive, only $65.99 today (June 26th)!  And this deal makes me a little jealous because this Toshiba drive has a retractable USB cable, so it's even more portable than the one I have.  And the USB controller on the Toshiba has an excellent transfer speed of 21.1 megabytes a second for reading data on the drive and 10 megabytes per second for writing to it.  Toshiba says the Canvio Plus drive is capable of this because it does have a dual memory channel built into the device to help push data along at an extremely rate.

So what can you do with the Toshiba Canvio Plus External Hard Drive?

* Store 180,000 or so digital photos.

* Store 160,000 or so MP3 files.

* Store 500 or so movie files.

* Backup your My Documents folder or whatever other folders on your pc, so you don't have to worry about losing the data on your computer!

* Install Ubuntu Linux on the drive to make it a quick and easy boot into your computer.

* Plug it into your HDTV (if it includes a USB port), and listen to your music or watch your movies directly from the Toshiba Canvio Plus external hard drive.
