It's usually pretty difficult to discuss a motorcycle singularly that has a multi-year lineup. Thankfully that's not the case with the Yamaha Road Star Warrior. Yamaha designed a great cruiser motorcycle in the Road Star Warrior back in 2002, and have made relatively few changes in it between the 2002 and 2009 model years.

For instance, in 2002, the Yamaha Warrior motorcycle featured a 5-speed wide-ratio wet clutch, but in 2009 all that's changed is that it's now a closed-ratio multi plate wet clutch. Yamaha also decided to add hydraulic disc brakes to the Warrior in the 2008 model year instead of just standard 282mm disc brakes. And the compression ratio changed from 8:3:1 to 8:36:1 in the middle of the Warrior lineup (thankfully). However the most important change from year to year is the aluminum frame the newest Warrior motorcycles are built upon. And that's a great change for the Yamaha Warrior to help keep the weight down, but also give it a great new modern styling.

But other than that, the Road Star Warrior is pretty much the same bike for each year. Is this a good thing? Yes, because for those of you trying to save a little money, you might be able to locate a quality early model Warrior and have practically the same bike as your newer model riding buddies!

So, we'll focus on the 2009 Yamaha Road Star Warrior in the specs department. Our 2009 Warrior features a 1670cc V-twin air cooled engine with 4 valves per cylinder. Yamaha makes a distinct effort to point out that all Road Star Warriors also have pushrod OHV for the V-twin traditionalists. The suspension on the motorcycle for the front is a 41mm inverted fork with 5.3" of travel built by KYB. The rear suspension is a single shock with an adjustable load with rebound damping and 4.3" of travel.

The wheels on the Yamaha Warrior have been 5 spoke cast wheels for almost all models of the Warrior and have been mounted with 120/70-ZR18 or ZR17, for the front and rear wheels respectively.

The dimensions of the Warrior motorcycle are 93 9/10" x 36 8/10" x 44 1/10" (L x W x H). Seat height is a pretty short 28" but the wheel base is a whopping 65 6/10".

The Yamaha Road Star Warrior carries 4 gallons of gas, but with a 39 miles/gallon average run, you'll be on the road more than you are off. But that leads us to one of the cons of the Warrior motorcycle. Some have felt that the ride position was just a little too stretched to be comfortable for some riders, so the fuel capacity might not be the reason you want to get off and stretch your legs. So be sure you do trial run a Warrior motorcycle prior to purchase.
