Yongnuo YN-467 Speedlite Flash for Sale

Right off, I'm going to point out that flash units, and specifically Speedlite models aren't something that I'm entirely comfortable in reviewing or using. Which is why this post about the Yongnuo YN-467 Speedlite flash model is basically to point out the bargain potential of the flash unit compared to the Canon 430EX or Nikon SB-600 flash units. Those two Speedlite (or Speedlight) flash units are preferred by photographers who use photography to make their living, and as such need the extras available to them with those units.

The Yongnuo YN-467 Speedlite Flash is instead priced for those of us who are into photography just for the fun of it, or maybe haven't gotten to the point where we could make a little extra on the side with it. The Yongnuo YN-467 Speedlite is comparable to either the Nikon or the Canon units in not only i-TTL exposure but also in the superb recycling time of less than 5 seconds at full power. Batteries used in the unit will help to dictate just how fast the YN-467 can recycle for the next shot, but obviously the better the battery, the faster the flash will be.

Speaking of the Nikon flash, the Yongnuo YN-467 Speedlite comes much closer to it than to the Canon in the size of the head and in allowing for manual zoom control. Head size is important for those who want to use a diffuser dome designed specifically for the Nikon, but it's not terribly important in general. But because the Canon compatible version of the YN-467 flash does not provide any chance of setting manual zoom, the Nikon compatible version is certainly a better choice in keeping true to how the Nikon camera will function with the low priced brand. If manual zoom isn't important to you and you own a Canon TTL style camera, then of course the Yongnuo YN-467 can still be considered.

It really only takes one look at the Yongnuo 467 Speedlite flash to see why this unit is bargain priced compared to the name brand versions. That reason? The Yongnuo 467 does have have an LCD. Instead, the setup is fairly simple. A dial on the rear of the unit turns the flash on and off. A push button ("mode") allows for scrolling through 7 intensity levels for each of TTL, S1 (slave), S2, and M (for manual) on the Nikon unit. If the photographer plans on changing the mode frequently, the higher priced flash units with an LCD might be the better choice, since it's easier to set. But for those who will set it and forget it, the setup couldn't be much easier.

Power, as briefly mentioned above, is from either 4 AA batteries or 4 NiMH batteries. We strongly prefer the NiMH batteries because the power is more consistent, provides more boost at flash time, and can be recharged again and again. If the Yongnuo YN-467 is used quite a bit, regular batteries will eventually become a large expense, so it's better to just start with the higher priced batteries.

While the 467 isn't compatible as a wireless flash unit, it can be used as a slave with either of the two settings if using radio triggers. The flash unit is also able to function as a wireless slave in manual mode. These settings will not work well with digital flashes such as E-TTL or i-TTL flashes, so having another flash like the YN-467 is your best bet if you want to use the S1 or S2 settings.

The Yongnuo YN-467 Speedlite flash unit is a great option if the photographer reviewing the flash wants an external flash unit that is fairly simple to use, with good construction, and when it comes in at a low, or bargain price. If one can be satisfied with missing out on the LCD controls or wireless flash availability, then what we end up with is saving a good bit of money that can be used to purchase higher quality lenses instead. If however the photographer will be shooting in manual mode quite often or needs those aforementioned abilities, then it's best to look for the best price on the Canon or Nikon made flash units.
